Overview
The Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) Terminal Modernization Program (TMP) is a 632,000‑square‑foot terminal expansion and renovation project delivering a new three‑level facility through redevelopment of the existing Airside Terminal. The program modernizes passenger processing, airline operations, and baggage handling infrastructure to support long‑term operational efficiency and growth.
Project Details
The Terminal Modernization Program includes the construction of a new three‑level terminal facility comprising a ground level, concourse level, and mezzanine addition. The project delivers 51 airline gates with passenger boarding bridges, a multi‑use parking garage with rental car services, a new roadway system, a cell phone lot, and long‑term surface parking.
As a critical member of the Project Management Office (PMO) team, Studdiford Technical Solutions, LLC (STS) provides BHS subject matter expertise throughout the design and construction phases. STS supports design and construction documentation reviews and advises the airport authority on technological advancements for incorporation into the baggage handling system. This includes early‑stage discussions and presentations with airport stakeholders focused on the use of predictive analytics and Permanent Magnet Motors (PMM) to improve system efficiency and long‑term performance.
Throughout design and construction, STS provides recommendations for BHS RFIs and submittal reviews and interfaces directly with the airport authority to ensure stakeholder input is incorporated into decision‑making. The project includes the design and installation of a full turnkey inbound and outbound baggage handling system within a greenfield terminal expansion.
The overall scope of services includes oversight of all BHS and CBIS design for TSA compliance, monitoring of BHS contractor performance, technology recommendations, Operational Readiness, Activation & Transition (ORAT) support, bid package development oversight, and detailed commissioning to support successful system startup and operational readiness.
