Overview
BNP has been engaged by Changi Airport Group (CAG) to provide consulting services for the new Baggage Handling System (BHS) at the new Terminal 5, as part of Changi International Airport’s expansion plans. From initial master planning through concept development and detailed design, including BHS simulation and tender support, BNP has led and delivered the entire new Terminal 5 BHS design in its entirety.
Terminal Capacity and Design
The new Changi T5 is designed to accommodate 70 million passengers annually. Its design and planning are carried out deliberately and thoroughly, in close coordination with the overall master planners, terminal designers, and architects.
Integration and Coordination
Particular attention is given to the integration and interface of inter- and intra-terminal tunnels, including collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team of designers. By ensuring proper alignment and coordination of tunnels connecting existing terminals, as well as those linking multiple buildings within the new T5, the client is able to optimize construction time and cost, while also enhancing the long-term operational efficiency of key airport systems. Effective and transparent communication between BNP, the master planners, and other airport system designers is critical to the smooth execution of this process.
Future-Ready Design
As the new Terminal 5 is being developed to support the airport’s air traffic well into the 2050s, it is essential to ensure that the Baggage Handling System (BHS) is future-ready. BNP is aligning its forward-looking vision for baggage handling with the airport’s specific operational goals to deliver smart, tailored solutions designed for long-term performance and adaptability.
