Overview

Airport Gurus led the ICT and Security Concept Design for Ferrovial Vertiports’ planned vertiport network in Florida, supporting the development of infrastructure for Advanced Air Mobility operations. The engagement focused on defining the technological and security foundations required to enable safe, efficient, and scalable eVTOL operations within an emerging regulatory environment.

The assignment established system architecture, integration principles, and operational alignment from first principles. The resulting concept design provides a resilient and scalable baseline to support phased deployment of a multi‑site vertiport network and future urban air mobility operations.

Project Details

Ferrovial Vertiports initiated the development of a vertiport network in the United States as part of its strategy to support Advanced Air Mobility. Florida was selected as the reference environment for defining the ICT and Security concept, reflecting a regulatory, operational, and market context representative of early AAM deployment.

Vertiports differ fundamentally from traditional airports, requiring new approaches to operational coordination, system integration, and security within urban and regional environments. At the time of the engagement, regulatory frameworks, operational standards, and infrastructure requirements for AAM were still evolving, necessitating a structured definition of system architecture and integration principles from first principles.

Airport Gurus supported the project by developing the ICT and Security Concept Design for the planned vertiport network. The scope included review of applicable regulatory frameworks and industry guidance, together with a structured assessment of the Concept of Operations to translate operational processes into system‑level requirements across airside and landside domains.

The concept design defined a high‑level ICT architecture supporting centralized network oversight and distributed vertiport operations. This included definition of system domains, integration principles, and centralized versus local control concepts to ensure operational resilience and real‑time coordination. Security systems were conceptually defined to support passenger processing, monitoring, access control, and overall operational safety within the vertiport environment.

Airport Gurus also conducted benchmarking of potential technology suppliers to assess solution maturity, interoperability, and suitability for vertiport operations. Continuous coordination was maintained with regulators, infrastructure designers, eVTOL manufacturers, and technology stakeholders to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with evolving industry standards.

Scalability, redundancy, and cybersecurity principles were embedded at concept stage to support phased network deployment and future expansion. The resulting Concept Design provides a clear and defensible technological baseline for subsequent detailed design, procurement, and implementation of Ferrovial’s vertiport network.
