In celebration of World Art Day, BNP was honored to host a special visit from Denver-based artist Thomas Evans, known professionally as Detour, at the firm’s Denver office. The event offered BNP employees a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of art, travel, and airport design through the lens of Detour’s newest installation at Denver International Airport, titled “It’s Not What You Take, It’s What You Bring Back.”
Detour’s work at Denver International Airport gives travelers an opportunity to feel more connected with each other “as we are all figuring out this thing called life.” For this installation, Detour put out a public call for luggage. The final sculpture includes 183 bags, all donated and upcycled.
Evans is inspired by the idea that life is always in perpetual motion, with our luggage carrying the items we hold dear. Since BNP employees live and breathe baggage systems, this discussion offered a refreshing and inspiring perspective.
As BNP continues to shape the future of baggage handling systems at airports around the world, events like these serve as a meaningful reminder of the people and experiences at the core of our work.
