Overview
Airport Gurus supported the Metropolitan Airports Commission in the modernization of passenger flow management capabilities at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport as part of the airport’s 2040 Long Term Program. The engagement focused on establishing a clear understanding of existing passenger journey processes and defining a future‑ready operating model supported by scalable technology.
The assignment progressed from assessment and strategic definition through procurement support and validation of an initial deployment scenario. This phased approach enabled MSP to align passenger flow technologies with long‑term business objectives while reducing implementation risk prior to airport‑wide rollout.
Project Details
Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport initiated its 2040 Long Term Program to support sustainable growth, enhance passenger experience, and improve operational efficiency across one of the largest hub airports in the United States. Within this framework, passenger flow management was identified as a critical enabler to improve real‑time situational awareness, optimize terminal capacity, and support data‑driven operational decision‑making.
Airport Gurus provided independent technical advisory services to support the structured evolution of passenger flow management systems at MSP. The engagement began with a comprehensive AS‑IS assessment of the passenger journey, including review of existing technologies, data flows, and stakeholder interactions. Based on this assessment, a TO‑BE passenger flow management framework was defined, together with a phased technology roadmap aligned with MAC’s long‑term strategic objectives.
Airport Gurus supported market benchmarking and vendor engagement activities to assess solution maturity and suitability. Functional, integration, and scalability requirements were defined to support procurement and ensure alignment with operational needs. During the procurement phase, Airport Gurus managed technical clarifications and evaluated vendor proposals from a functional and integration perspective.
Following vendor selection, Airport Gurus provided technical oversight of the initial implementation scenario. This included review of system architecture, interface design, and deployment strategy, as well as validation of data quality, integration logic, and operational performance in a live environment. The engagement was delivered as independent technical assurance, without assuming responsibility for system development or deployment.
The project established a clear and scalable foundation for passenger flow modernization at MSP, reduced technology and implementation risk, and enabled informed decision‑making ahead of broader airport‑wide deployment.
