Job Description
A baggage system controls consulting engineer provides expert guidance, solutions, and oversight in the design, optimization, and maintenance of automated baggage handling systems. This role focuses on delivering specialized consulting services to airports, engineering firms, material handling or baggage system contractors to enhance system performance, ensure regulatory compliance, and implement cutting-edge technologies.

Job Responsibilities
Below are the typical responsibilities associated with this consulting role:
System Assessment: Evaluate existing baggage handling control systems to identify inefficiencies, risks, and areas for improvement.
Design Recommendations: Provide strategic input and detailed recommendations for the design and implementation of baggage system controls to meet client needs and industry standards.
Specification Writing: Develop precise technical specifications for baggage control systems, ensuring clarity and compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
Project Oversight: Offer technical oversight during the integration and testing phases of baggage control systems, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
Compliance and Safety Advisory: Ensure that all proposed solutions adhere to aviation industry regulations, airport safety standards, and applicable national, state and local codes.
Collaboration: Work closely with client teams, including airport management, engineering staff, and stakeholders, to align system solutions with operational objectives.
Technical Documentation: Develop comprehensive reports, specifications, and recommendations to support clients' decision-making processes.
Training and Support: Provide training and expert support to client teams for system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Innovation Advocacy: Stay at the forefront of automation technologies and advocate for the adoption of innovative solutions in baggage handling systems.
Review of contractors electrical, controls and system network architecture drawings
Part-time travel to client sites
BNP is here to support you in these responsibilities. We will provide you with state-of-the-art technology, including new computer hardware, off the shelf up to date software package combined with in-house software developed to support our niche industry.
Qualifications
Below is an outline of the qualifications for this position. We have many engineers that fall outside of this standard, so please do not be dissuaded from applying if you do not meet particular criteria:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation and process controls, ideally with exposure to baggage handling systems or similar industrial environments.
While programming in this role is not required, proficiency in Automation Tools and deep knowledge of platforms such as software in the Siemens Totally Integrated Automation Portal, Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 Logix, or alongside programming skills in ladder logic or block programming, Python, or C++ is a plus.
Understanding and ability to provide functional designs and specifications of distributed control systems
Analytical and Advisory Skills: Strong problem-solving and communication abilities to evaluate systems and convey actionable recommendations to clients.
Control System Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of PLCs, SCADA systems, and HMI software tailored to baggage handling or similar process systems operations.
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose process issues and determine if they are mechanical, layout or controls related. Ability to determine root cause of controls related issues.
Ability to interact and collaborate with internal project teams of project managers, designers and mechanical engineers.
Ability to prepare and lead project presentations and interact with clients and baggage system contractors. Must have experience with Power Point.
Must have experience evaluating existing obsolete control systems and specifying modern technology replacement
Must be authorized to work in the US.

Education
A bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred but not required.
Relevant fields include Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
Associates degree in automation and on the job relevant experience will be considered.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time position based in any of our U.S. offices, including Denver, Chicago, Dallas, Tampa, and Fairfield. The role requires occasional travel to airports within the U.S. for site-based work as well as travel to architectural and engineering partners’ offices. The successful candidate must pass criminal background checks and screening to obtain airport security badges.

Standard 40-hour work week with occasional additional time required to meet deadlines.

SALARY
$80,000 - $150,000 per year depending on experience and education.
